Honeymoon, day two…

Today, we went to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, St. Paul’s, the World Trade Center Site and Trinity Church.
I have uploaded pictures from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis island to There will be no pictures of the churches or the WTC site taken by me, as I do not believe in taking pictures at the WTC site like it is a tourist attraction, and both the churches requested that we do not take pictures inside their places of worship. Fair enough.
Statue of Liberty – I am really dissapointed that we are no longer allowed to go up to the observation deck at the top of the crown. Apparently, that is no longer allowed after the September 11th attacks, even though they practically strip search you on the way in. That saddens me greatly, but I guess that the TPTB care little what saddens me. I was surprised to see how small it really was up close. It is still larger than life in a sense, but so small at the same time.
Ellis Island – Fascinating memorial to the early immigration to this country. It was interesting to see what my great-grandparents went through when they entered this country.
St. Paul’s – Oy, what a tearjerker. I teared up almost every display they had. I highly recommend that you take the time to visit their link and look at the role that they had on and after September 11th. Its nice to see that a church can stop caring about what religion someone is and just care about the person in times of need. Its also a miracle to see that not a single pane of glass was broken on it, especially considering the damage that I saw on surrounding buildings on a prior trip and on the news.
WTC – nothing there anymore but a hole in the ground really, but it still seems right to stop and have a moment of silence there when I am in town.
Trinity Church – This was the first chance I have ever had to visit the church, and it is every bit as amazing as it looked on National Treasure. Its a BEAUTIFUL church. They have a virtual tour on their site that is well worth having a look at. πŸ™‚
After tramping all about Lower Manhattan, I think we are gonna stick close to the hotel for tonite. Tomorrow, we have Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo and a visit to Central Park on the Agenda. Wheeeee!

Honeymoon, first full day

We woke up, well, late. We got into the hotel after midnight after waiting for some not so pretty thunderstorms to get out of the midwest. Delays all around. W00t!
We had lunch at dinner time and went to a place that was probably the nicest place I had ever been. They wiped the table down after every course!!!!! OMG! Anyway, I put a few new pics up on in the Wedding section, called Our Honeymoon.
For dinner, we had a slice o’ pizza, New York style. We are headed to bed now. Tomorrow is a trip up to the top of the Statue of Liberty, and possibly a trip to make out at the top of the Empire State Building. WHHHHHEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

Wedding done…

Well, we finally did it. The wedding is finally over, and Honey is now Mister Dessie. :-p Sorry, couldnt resist. The streaming didnt work out like I hoped, but we will have something up later today so all y’all can see it. We leave in a few hours for the honeymoon, so I will be back on the 2nd w/ lots of pics. (Not THOSE pics scizzy! :-P)
Thanks to all you guys for all your love and support for the two of us – it means a lot! :’)

Wedding Disaster Resolved!

We went down to the wedding place this morning to scream, yell, cry, throw a tantrum, whatever to hopefully have them do something about the travesty that they made out of the wedding location. Anyway, we talk to one person and she sends us to another. When confronted with our complaint about lack of communication on such a major change, the second lady was all, well, most people don’t use the decor in the room as a basis of their decorations. I was pretty much, “Bullshit, Bitch” about that obviously. John told her that he quite frankly didn’t care what most people did. Anyway, she was heading off to get the General Manager.
As we were waiting for Mister Manager, the lady who actually is our coordinator for the event came in. I guess it was supposed to have been her day off, but she was there anyway. She came in saw us, asked what was wrong, and when we told her, she said, “what? I’ll go get the stuff and do it myself. Don’t worry about it, it’s taken care of.” End of problem.
/me breathes a sigh of relief.

Wedding Disasters :(

So, today, I went to the wedding place to show my sister, Shiloh, the venue. We walk in, I start showing her around, and then it hits me. All the vines are missing. Yes, the beautiful vines through the ceiling, the whole reason we fell in love with the place – GONE.
We went from:

This ENTIRELY ruins my whole dΓƒΖ’Γ†β€™Γƒβ€šΓ‚Β©cor plan which was centered around the vines. Hell, my bouquet was all vines! I went over to the office to ask WTF, and they were all, well, we are gonna add come chandeliers. Well GREAT, THANKS. HOW ABOUT PUTTING BACK WHAT I FUCKING PAID FOR?!
We have a call in to the wedding planner demanding a meeting, for all the good it will do. I cried all the way home. Now, I have to come up with an actual dΓƒΖ’Γ†β€™Γƒβ€šΓ‚Β©cor plan and some centerpieces to counteract how mediocre the room is now. *sob*.
I am just glad we went over there before the rehearsal. It would have been truly terrible to find this with only 2 days before the wedding and no time to fix it. Well, as much as we can anyway. πŸ™

Hmm. It’s Springtime Now.

So I thought it was time for a new, spring-ish look for ye olde blog. (translation: I got bored with the green. LOL)
Time has flown by. I am swamped as heck at work, since I am pretty much working 6 days a week until we get someone new hired for the graveyard shift on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Das no fun, but the money is a good thing with the wedding fast approaching. (Current countdown at the time of this typing: 12wks 2days 4hrs 18mins 34secs)
To do in the next couple of weeks: find some bridesmaid’s dresses we all can live with that don’t break the bank, and finalise invitations. Anyone know where I can find plain old boring cream coloured invitation card stock w/ matching envelopes? It’s much more complicated than I would have thought to find. BOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
We have decided on a honeymoon location (well, two in our case). We are going to New York City for a week, then for a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean. It’s going to be the longest vacation I have taken in like 5 years, no longer. The last one I took was only a week. ROFL, its gonna be my longest ever.
Other than that, I have nothing interesting going on in my life. Depressing, isn’t it?

I Picked Out a Dress, and Other Wedding News

Wedding plans are chugging along nicely. The date of June 18th is now official. The wedding will be around 6PM, give or take a half an hour. The location given in the earlier entry is now also official. More pictures of the place can be found at Yay! The wedding website is basically done – it just needs some clever text for the main page. The URL for the site should be announced shortly.
I picked out a my dress. It’s a rental, so I won’t be paying a zillion dollars for something I will never wear again. It probably weighs 20 pounds with all that beading and such on it, but meh. πŸ™‚ The major question for discussion: how long til I trip over the train and do a head over heels move? I am, after all, a klutz.

We Found a Place!

Calamigos Ranch – The Oaks Room
This is the place we picked out for our wedding. The original date we had planned is not going to work, because it is a touch more expensive than we had planned on, so we put it off a bit to June. The current plan is for June 18th, but that won’t be final until we go sign papers and give them money on Friday. Stupid job had to send honey out of town til then. πŸ™
Anyway, work on the wedding website has commenced, with announcements to be made shortly as to location. RSVP will be all online or via phone, as I am really too lazy (and cheap) to deal with RSVP cards.
Poll: to have dancing or not to have dancing – that is the question. Comments welcome. πŸ™‚

Yay for Another New Catagory! Wedding!

We are going location shopping for our wedding this weekend. Yay for us!
Shaddup all you people out there, you knew we were going to get around to it sooner or later! I don’t want to hear it’s about time from all y’all. πŸ˜€
Stay tuned…hopefully we will have location and dates firmed up in the next couple of weeks.
